TBF Transport Benevolent Fund

Transport-Benevolent-Fund-logoTBF is a registered charity (1058032 in England & Wales, SC040013 in Scotland) which welcomes members throughout the public transport industry in Great Britain. It does not operate in Ireland or in any other country.

Membership costs £1 a week and entitles the member and their partner and dependent children to be considered for help by the trustees. Help includes cash, debt advice, medical equipment, complementary therapies, bereavement grants, legal help, second opinions and convalescence. All requests for help are treated in strict confidence, and with the minimum of bureaucracy.

The membership contribution is normally deducted by employers at source, and some meet the cost of membership themselves. There are currently over 40,000 contributing members and membership grew by about 10% in 2012.

The trustees are all employed in the industry. The charity’s work is supported by the heads of most of the major public transport groups and of the trades unions.
