The new metro train for the capital of Poland – the Inspiro from Siemens – was presented to the public in the middle of January. This was the first opportunity for the people of Warsaw to see and board the new metro, which is due to enter revenue service later this year. The unveiling ceremony of the Siemens train was performed by Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Mayoress of Warsaw, Jerzy Lejk, CEO of the Warsaw Metro and Peter Baudrexl, CEO of Siemens Poland. In the first three hours following the ceremony, some three thousand people took a look at their future means of rapid transit.

Inspiro from SiemensIn appreciation of Warsaw’s public urban transport system, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz said, “This really is 21st-century technology. Modern means of transport have changed Warsaw’s image and style.” Jerzy Lejk then said, “Today, we’re celebrating an important moment in the history of our company. Our Inspiro project was launched in February 2011 with the signing of the contract for the supply of 35 trains from Siemens. No other type of train has placed such high priority on passenger comfort and looking after the environment.”

Peter Baudrexl summed up by saying, “We’re really proud to have been able to contribute as a partner toward the modernization and development of the Warsaw mass transit system. With the presentation of the first train today, we have reached a major milestone in this process. This train is state-of-the-art, especially in terms of environmental compatibility.”

Sandra Gott-Karlbauer, CEO of the Urban Transport Business Unit, said, “Warsaw will be the first city in the world to operate the Inspiro. This will also create a close connection between the capital of Austria and Warsaw. Because the train was developed in Vienna and the first ten trains are also being built there. The remaining trains are going to be constructed in the Newag Plant in Nowy Sacz, Poland.”
