In 2012, Solaris will supply 44 state-of-the-art Urbino low-floor city buses to five bus operators from the Rhineland region in Germany. The local authority-owned companies jointly tender for new buses as part of “Kooperationsgemeinschaft Mittlerer Niederrhein” (KMN) group and chose Solaris for the third consecutive time.

In order to generate synergies, the municipal transport companies of the German cities of Mönchengladbach, Krefeld, Neuss and Viersen as well as neighbouring Heinsberg District procure new buses together, with joint tenders issued every year.

For the 2012 intake, Solaris was chosen as supplier for all buses after submitting the best bid. 24 Urbino 12 standard-length buses and 20 articulated Urbino 18 will bolster the fleets of KMN operators.

Małgorzata Olszewska, Solaris Director Global Sales & Marketing, welcomes this important order: “We are delighted that all five KMN partners have once again chosen the Solaris Urbino. Whenever our customers come back to us for repeat business, we have successfully been able to pass an extended quality control check.”

The order is split across KMN’s five constituent operators: 20 Urbino 12 for NEW mobil und aktiv Mönchengladbach GmbH, 2 Urbino 12 for NEW mobil und aktiv Viersen GmbH, 10 Urbino 18 for SWK Mobil GmbH of Krefeld, 7 Urbino 18 for Stadtwerke Neuss GmbH and 2 Urbino 12 und 3 Urbino 18 for Erkelenz-based WestEnergie und Verkehr GmbH, the provider of bus services in Heinsberg District.

Solaris first delivered buses to some of KMN’s members in 2010, with 17 buses supplied. In 2011, all operators chose Solaris and together ordered 27 Solaris Urbino diesel buses. Additionally, Solaris built nine diesel-electric hybrids for KMN operators after receiving separate orders. With the 2012 delivery, nearly 100 Solaris buses will operate in this part of Germany.
