Finmeccanica, through its companies Ansaldo STS (STS.MI) and AnsaldoBreda has been awarded a contract worth EUR 700 million to build the technological transport system of the Copenhagen’s new metro, Cityringen.

A city circle line for an automated, driverless and entirely underground metro will be realized employing a more advanced system compared to the one used previously in Denmark, and it will cover 16 km in the centre of Copenhagen and include 17 stations. The metro will become operational in 2018.

AnsaldoBreda will supply high technological trains whereas Ansaldo STS will provide planning and construction of power systems, communications systems, SCADA, platform-edge doors, signalling (CBTC), superstructure, carriages, depot and control centre; the bid also includes five years’ operation and maintenance, with the option of a further three years.
