Ansaldo STS (STS.MI), a Finmeccanica company, has today received an invitation from the Municipality of Copenhagen to take part in the final negotiations for the contract to build the city’s new metro, Cityringen, which will become operational in 2018.

As regards Ansaldo STS’s part of the contract, the company has proposed a number of technical solutions worth a total of around EUR 700 million. The precise scope of the contract and related price will be defined during negotiations, which will then be subject to the customer’s approval.

Ansaldo STS will be required to build a city circle line for an automated, driverless metro – the same construction as used previously in Denmark – which will cover 16 km in the centre of Copenhagen and include 17 underground stations.

Specifically, the scope of work for Ansaldo STS relates to the planning and construction of power systems, communications systems, SCADA, platform-edge doors, signalling (CBTC), superstructure, carriages, depot and control centre; the bid also includes five years’ operation and maintenance, with the option of a further three years.

The trains will be supplied by Ansaldo Breda, another Finmeccanica company.
