CTS show, Mexico, October 4th, 2010: ASK is the supplier of the contactless smart cards, readers and couplers that allow 500 000 passengers to commute everyday on the fast and modern bus line of Metrobús, Mexico, since its launching in 2005.

An installed base of over 750 ASK readers and couplers are in the field and more than 6.5 million ASK cards have been delivered to end-users who consequently benefit from a better quality of life and from the technology of a contactless expert in mass transit.

The current 2 bus lines using a dedicated lane go through Mexico city during 50 km. A third line will be running from January on with 17 km additional. This transport system is the first in the world to actively contribute to drastically decrease pollution. The whole infrastructure takes into account all passengers including disabled people in a highly secure environment.

“I’m very proud to have been involved, from the beginning, in the implementation of a modern fare collection system. Contactless technology and Metrobús contribute to sustainable development in Mexico city and help decrease the city’s pollution”, says Jorge Leal, general manager of ASK Mexico, ASK Mexican subsidiary.

Anniversary contactless smart card: a future collection card

Mexico has just celebrated the bicentennial anniversary of its independence and will soon celebrate the centennial anniversary of the revolution. For this special event, Metrobús asked ASK to produce two anniversary layouts which no doubt will become collection smart cards when they are to be changed in a few years. “Our long term partnership with ASK has been successful and we have always been satisfied with the quality of service, apart from being the first transit system to use contactless smart cards in the city, says Guillermo Calderón Aguilera, general manager of Metrobús. After 5 years of this public transport implementation, benefits for our citizens are obvious and they are part of the global “green policy” of the city.”
