Solaris will unveil further models of the new Urbino following its premiere at the IAA Commercial Vehicles exhibition in Hanover in 2014. The upcoming presentation will introduce a new zero-emission Urbino 12 electric and Urbino 12 LE developed mainly for suburban routes. Roll-out of the new battery-powered bus and full-size low-entry bus will represent the next stage of major generation change that Solaris has been making since last year.

Urbino 12 electric design frees up space for passengers and significantly reduces vehicle weight

At a length of 12 metres, the emission-free Solaris Urbino 12 electric is fitted with the 3rd generation ZF AVE 130 electric drive with axle-mounted motors. This concept and design frees up space for passengers and significantly reduces the weight of the vehicle by several hundred kilograms compared to its predecessor. The batteries, mounted at the back of the bus, deliver 240 kWh. They can be topped up via a pantograph installed on the roof or via a traditional plug-in connection. Three battery-powered Urbino’s have already been ordered by üstra Hannover City Transport.

The 12 metre Urbino 12 LE is low-entry in design and is the latest addition to the Solaris intercity bus range. Similar to the Urbino 12 electric, the LE is significantly lighter in weight than its predecessor owing to a redesigned body frame that has also increased passenger capacity. Solaris has unified the exterior of the new range allowing operators to use many identical components and spare parts for different models of Urbino, including the low-entry version. The vehicle which will be presented at the exhibition is fitted with a Euro 6 Cummins ISB6.7 engine which meets the most restrictive fuel emission standards.

Solaris also plans to present a new concept bus in the midibus class. Subsequently, the manufacturer will reveal the Urbino 12 CNG and new Trollino 12 in the near future.
