Üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG orders another 50 LRVs from the consortium partners Vossloh Kiepe and Alstom Transport Deutschland. The managing board of Üstra made this announcement on November 15, 2013 during the handover of the first light rail vehicle of the type TW 3000 in Leipzig.

The first of altogether 50 high-floor light rail vehicles (LRVs) was transported from Leipzig to Hanover on November 15, 2013. The new TW3000 LRVs are based on a contract concluded in 2011, which includes 50 LRVs and an option for another 96 LRVs, of which 50 have now been ordered.

In the next few days the dynamic commissioning of the state-of-the-art bidirectional vehicles begins in Hanover and will probably last until the end of February 2014. Thus, operation with passengers can start at the beginning of March upon receipt of the vehicle approval.

The new 25 m long LRVs do not only stand out due to their modern vehicle concept and their high passenger comfort, but also due to the fact that they fulfil high safety requirements: Thus, special impact and crash elements have been integrated, which provide better crash protection. The bogies have been designed in a particularly compact way to meet the requirements for the TW3000 LRVs and provide high comfort for the passengers during operation.

The driver’s workplace has been developed in full consideration of the ergonomic needs of the Üstra drivers. Their wishes were considered at the design stage so that a fully practically oriented workplace has resulted, which all the drivers like.

The new vehicles are going to replace the 30 years old vehicles of the type TW 6000 little by little.
