Tube performance continues where it left off after record-breaking year

New figures from the first four weeks of 2013/14 show that London Underground (LU) customers continue to enjoy strong and steady reliability performance on the Tube.

The figures, covering period 1 of this year (1 April to 27 April), show that delays to customers were reduced by 6.6 per cent on the previous four-week period. Passenger journeys were 2 per cent higher than the same period last year, with LU operating more than 97 per cent of scheduled train services.

Customer satisfaction, measured quarterly through independent surveys of LU customers, currently stands at a record high of 84.

The continuing trend of long-term improvement follows the success of the London Underground Reliability Programme, introduced in 2011. London Underground continues to implement this Programme to meet the Mayor’s commitment of reducing delays by a further 30 per cent by 2015.

Phil Hufton, Chief Operating Officer of London Underground, said: “We continue to focus on driving delays down further to make customer journeys even more reliable across the Tube network, which is vital if London is to continue to drive the UK economy and create jobs across the country.

“These improvements are coming at the same time as we’re carrying record numbers of passengers while modernising great swathes of the Tube. If we’re to keep pace with the huge level of demand we’re seeing now, we’ve got to see continued investment alongside our performance so that we can continue to improve further.”
