Record-breaking week for bus journeys as passenger numbers continue to rise

A record-breaking week on London’s bus network has seen passenger numbers reach their highest level since before 1960. With an estimated 49.5 million journeys made between 28 April and 4 May there are now as many bus journeys being made in London each week as in the rest of England combined.

Contract awarded to increase Vauxhall Tube station capacity

Mayor heads to Northern Ireland to meet bus workers who benefit from Capital’s investment

The Mayor of London is in Northern Ireland today (10 May) to open a manufacturing plant that will build the chassis for the new bus for London. The order for 600 of these new buses is set to provide 50 new jobs and the Mayor’s visit highlights how investment in the capital’s transport system has the knock on benefit of providing jobs and growth throughout the rest of the UK.

New buses deliver multi-million pound saving

New Tube extension for south London moves one step closer

Thousands of people in south London are one step closer to having better access to the Tube as Transport for London (TfL) today confirmed that it has applied for powers to build and run an extension of the Northern line to Battersea from Kennington via Nine Elms. If the Tube link goes ahead travel to the West End and the City would be cut to 15 minutes from the Battersea area. If planning powers are obtained from the Government, and a funding package is in place, then construction of the Northern line extension could begin in 2015 with the two new stations opening in 2020.

First new bus for London ‘production vehicles’ leave the factory

A production line set up to manufacture a fleet of the Mayor’s new buses for London has despatched its first completed buses to the capital. The first two buses have left the Wrightbus factory in Northern Ireland, these will be followed by another four next week and a further 594 over the next three years. When they arrive in London the buses will initially be used for driver training and familiarisation.

Wide aisle gates at 180 Tube stations means more independent and quicker journeys
