Alstom and its local joint venture, Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd. (SATEE), have been awarded a contract by Nanjing Metro Group to provide traction systems and associated services to the Nanjing Metro line 4 phase I project. The contract value is approximately €28 million. The Nanjing Metro Line 4 is expected to be put into commercial operation in October 2015.

Alstom was awarded a contract by UK Power Networks Services to supply its innovative Harmonic and Energy Saving Optimiser (HESOP) energy recovery system for the Victoria Line of the London Underground. The contract, worth about €1 million, is for a trial of inverting substation technology that will run until 2014 at the Cloudesley Road substation. This will help make the Underground more energy efficient and will also help control tunnel temperatures.

The last two Casablanca Citadis tramsets left the Reichshoffen facility on Monday March 25th, 2013. The event marked the end of production for the 74 trains making up the Moroccan fleet, after mobilising 10 Alstom Transport facilities in France and abroad.

Alstom finalised a contract to provide 34 light rail vehicles and 30 years of maintenance services to the Rideau Transit Group (RTG) consortium(1) that was selected to design, build, finance, and maintain the first line of the Ottawa Light Rapid Transit (OLRT) system worth over €1.5 billion (2.1 billion Canadian dollars). Alstom’s portion of the contract is worth approximately €400 million.

Alstom has received an order for five additional metro trainsets from the municipality of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The order, worth around €42 million, is an option of the contract signed in 2010, which included 23 Metropolis for the metro network of the Dutch capital. The additional metro trainsets will be delivered to Amsterdam during the second half of 2014.

As part of a consortium, Alstom was awarded a contract worth approximately 20 million euro by Sao Paulo Metro to provide auxiliary systems for the extension of Line 5 (Lilac). The expansion will start in 2013, with the first station, ‘Adolfo Pinheiro’, to be inaugurated by the end of the year, and is expected to end in 2015.

Today Williams Hybrid Power – a division of the Williams group of companies that includes the Williams F1 Team – and Alstom Transport have signed an agreement that will see Williams Hybrid Power’s energy storage technology applied to Alstom’s Citadis trams by 2014.

In 2012 Alstom Transport had a record year with the entry into service of 270 Citadis tramways built in France. These tramways were delivered to the agglomerations of Algiers, Brest, Casablanca, Dijon (Lines 1 and 2), Le Havre, Lyon, Montpellier (Lines 3 and 4), Orleans (Line B), Rotterdam, Rouen, Tunis as well as the extensions to Lines T2 and T3 of the Ile de France tramway for the STIF and the RATP. 2012 was also a record year in terms of production. In 2012, in average, one Citadis tramway has rolled off the Alstom’s production lines every 18 hours.

On 12 January 2013, Alstom Transport presented the first of the 19 Citadis trams for the T7 line to Jean-Paul Huchon, Chairman of STIF, the body responsible for organising public transport in the Paris region, and Chairman of the Ile-de-France regional authority, at its La Rochelle site attended by Ségolène Royal, Chairwoman of the Poitou-Charentes regional authority, and Jérôme Wallut, CEO of Alstom Transport France.

Attending the event were the Moroccan and French Prime Ministers, Abdelilah Benkirane and Jean-Marc Ayrault, Wali of the Casablanca Region, Mohamed Bousaid, Mayor of Casablanca, Mohamed Sajid as well as Casa Transports Managing Director, Youssef Draiss, RATP Chairman, Pierre Mongin, and Alstom Chairman and CEO, Patrick Kron.

Alstom has been awarded two contract extensions by Ireland’s Railway Procurement Agency (RPA), one for maintenance on the Dublin’s Luas tram system infrastructure, the second for maintenance of Citadis trams on the Luas Green Line. The two contracts are worth €53 million together.

On December 8th, 2012, Rhône-Alpes Regional Council Chairman Jean-Jack Queyranne, SNCF Regional Director Josiane Beaud, RFF Regional Director Anne Lambusson, as well as Gérard Collomb, Senator, Mayor of Lyon and Chairman of Greater Lyon, Michel Mercier, Senator and Chairman of Rhone County Council, and Jérôme Wallut, Managing Director of Alstom Transport France, will all be on hand to attend the official commissioning of Alstom’s Citadis Dualis tram-train for the second line in the Western Lyon Area. The new trams will travel on a line linking Lyon’s Saint-Paul Station to Brignais. This event will happen two months after the inauguration of the first Citadis Dualis tramway route in Western Lyon, linking Saint-Paul train station to Saint-Bel.

Alstom has signed a contract worth around €105 million with SuperVia – the main railway operator of the Rio de Janeiro state, in Brazil – for the supply of 80 Metropolis metro cars. The new cars will be produced by Alstom’s Lapa plant, which is currently employing 450 people in São Paulo state, but the final assembly of the cars and the tests will take place in a new plant located in Deodoro, a neighborhood of the city of Rio de Janeiro. SuperVia will provide the development site and Alstom will build the factory. Each partner will make an initial investment of 6 million euros for this new facility. The plant is expected to be ready to operate from mid-2013 onwards with 50 employees.

Alstom, in a consortium with CAF Brazil, FrotaPoa, has been selected to supply 15 metro trainsets to the Company of Urban Trains of Porto Alegre Brazil, Trensurb. The total amount of the contract is worth around €94 million of which over 80 million to Alstom. With this order, Trensurb will see its metro fleet increased by 60%. The trains which are intended for Metro line 1 of Porto Alegre are scheduled to be delivered for the soccer World Cup in 2014.
