Trapeze Group has been awarded yet another large-scale order from Europe: Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) GmbH, the public urban passenger transport authority of the City of Leipzig, Germany, has signed a contract with Trapeze for the supply and installation of a state-of-the-art integrated operations control system for controlling the entire fleet of vehicles and providing dynamic passenger information. In addition, LVB ordered new ticket printers and intends to upgrade its communications system. This order strengthens the position of Trapeze in its European home market.

LVB operates over 450 vehicles on 13 tramway and 61 urban and regional bus routes. The authority moves 135 million passengers annually in the larger Leipzig area. The latest integrated operations control system of Trapeze enables LVB to further enhance the efficiency of its entire tramway and bus operations. Passengers thereby profit from an optimised range of services with shorter trip times and more accurate transfers.

LVB has been a Trapeze customer for years and has used an operations control system since 1994. This upgrading generates numerous technical and commercial benefits. In the next two years, Trapeze is to supply and install state-of-the-art hardware and software for a cutting-edge Intelligent Transport Control System (ITCS) as well as mobile technologies. Combined Trapeze-Elgeba devices are to be used for the driver terminals in the busses, which function simultaneously as on-board computers and ticket printers. The tramways are to incorporate advanced multifunction on-board computers for the drivers. Plans are to renew the entire communications solution between the vehicles and the control centre as well as the displays at the stops. This involves using newest TETRA/UMTS communications solutions for all vehicles and the displays. In the future, these modern communication paths are anticipated to transmit also passenger and transfer information in real time to the vehicles for display on the existing multifunction displays.

The project is promoted by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Saxony. The project was launched on 1 January 2013, and the complete implementation time is estimated at 30 months.
