Part of a total of 334 new Wrightbus vehicles delivered into Arriva during 2011, the order was originally announced in March this year.

“StreetLite® will fit perfectly on narrow urban roads whilst offering good passenger capacity in a bus that will have the wow factor,” said Kevin Hawkins, Regional Commercial Director for Arriva Southern Counties.

The Arriva 10.2 metre, ‘Door Forward’ variants have 37 seats, a maximum capacity for 70 passengers and incorporate an advanced heating and ventilation system for passenger comfort. A curved body features the Wrightbus Aluminique™ structure with deep side windows and a full rear window giving the vehicle a light and airy interior and is fully certified to ECWVTA & ECE107 regulations.

A highly responsive, fuel efficient, 4 cylinder Cummings 160PS, iSBe5 (SCR) engine is Euro 5 compliant and the vehicles are fitted with a Voith gearbox, with integrated hydrodynamic retarder. The engine, gearbox, cooling pack, air filter and exhaust system are incorporated on a fully demountable skid for ease of servicing and maintenance.

Each vehicle is fitted with 21st Century, 8 camera CCTV systems for safety and passenger security along with reversing camera and cab monitor. Daytime running lights are fitted as standard, as part of a combined indicator/position/DRL, LED lamp system. The ergonomic driver’s area provides excellent all round visibility and is ISO 16121 compliant.

Finished in Arriva’s distinctive Interurban livery of aquamarine blue and stone, the vehicles will be branded for key route 116 which runs through the heart of the Universities at Medway campus and will feature on-bus wi-fi technology.

“It is extremely gratifying to have completed our first delivery of StreetLite® to a major UK bus group and particularly Arriva, with whom we have a long established working relationship having been supplying them with vehicles for over 20 years,” said Steve Jackson, Wrightbus National Accounts Manager.

“StreetLite® with its modern, innovative design, cost effective operation and passenger carrying capability is a perfect fit with the Group’s urban operational requirements.”
