For the second year running, Bombardier Transportation has received the prestigious award for Worldwide Supplier of the Year at the 2011 Light Rail Awards, held in London. Germar Wacker, President Light Rail Vehicles (LRV), Colin S Walton, UK Chairman and Elaine Greenwood, Sales Director LRV UK were on stage to collect one of the most highly-prized accolades of the evening from the UK’s Under- Secretary of State for Transport, Norman Baker.

Germar Wacker said: “This award underscores our capability as a provider of light rail solutions and as a reliable partner for transport operators in the UK. Our vehicles are already in successful revenue service in Manchester, London-Docklands, London-Croydon and Nottingham and our first BOMBARDIER FLEXITY2 tram has just been successfully launched in Blackpool.”

The judges who again selected Bombardier for the highly prized accolade said: “With over 100,000 trams and railcars running worldwide, this is a firm that goes from strength to strength in the urban transit industry. The latest FLEXITY 2 vehicles for Blackpool are obviously the result of the firm’s extensive experience in this industry and offer an exciting future for the next generation of tramways worldwide.”
