New diesel-electric train / trams order for Spain

The Train-Trams will be used in both regional traffic as well as in inner-city traffic. Speeds of up to 100 km/h can be reached in regional traffic and almost 70 km/h in inner-city traffic.

Vossloh Kiepe and its Spanish affiliated company Vossloh Rail Vehicles have together received an order for delivery of four diesel-electrical Train-Tram vehicles for the province of León. The order contains options for additional vehicles as well.

Feve (Ferrocarriles Españoles de Vía Estrecha), state operator of several metre gauge railway networks in Spain, has just enlarged its fleet of vehicles. The new two-direction vehicles will be used on the line in the north-west of Central Spain from Cistierna to León. The Train-Trams will be used in both regional traffic as well as in inner-city traffic. Speeds of up to 100 km/h can be reached in regional traffic and almost 70 km/h in inner-city traffic.

Vossloh Rail Vehicles in Valencia is responsible for the design, production and delivery of the vehicles. Vossloh Kiepe will take over the project planning, delivery and commissioning of the electrical equipment. The development of the Train-Tram vehicles’ on-board power supply was further developed by Vossloh Kiepe on the basis of proven IGBT modules. These innovative 500 series static converters are particularly characterized by the use of energy-efficient high frequency circuit technology, which resulted in weight reduction while at the same time an increase in overall performance. Thus the 60 kVA power/performance class is now also a part of the Vossloh Kiepe product portfolio.

An additional vehicle has been placed on the market (in cooperation between Vossloh Rail Vehicles and Vossloh Kiepe) based on the model jointly produced for Mallorca.
