CAF to supply 10 nine-car trains for Mexico City Metro

In a contract worth approximately €164 million, CAF has been selected to supply 10 nine-car units for Line 1 of Mexico City Metro.

Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC), the transportation organisation of the Federal District Government, has announced rolling stock manufacturer CAF will supply 10 pneumatic tyred-trains for Line 1 of the Mexico City Metro in a contract worth approximately €164 million.

The contract forms part of a vehicle and infrastructure refurbishment programme with 11 pledges to improve Line 1. The first units from CAF are planned for delivery in early 2018.

Once delivered, STC plan to transfer 15 trains currently running on Line 1 to other lines where they will run as nine or six-car sets.

CAF has been involved in Mexican railroad projects since 1992, and has supplied since a large number of units for several Metro lines in the City of Mexico, along with the provision of maintenance services.
