De Lijn prepares for growth with HASTUS upgrade and expansion

De Lijn has awarded GIRO a major contract to upgrade its HASTUS software installation and add a range of modules for managing daily operations. These modules will replace a former in-house solution. GIRO will also develop new functionalities to meet De Lijn’s detour-management needs.

A HASTUS client since 1994, De Lijn carries over 500 million passengers a year. The Flemish public transport operator has elected to take advantage of the flexibility of GIRO’s solution by adding a range of operations modules, centred on DailyCrewand DailyVehicle, to manage employee and vehicle assignments. Notable among the other modules selected by De Lijn are:

  • PlanCrew to enable optimizing employee assignments while balancing company objectives and employee preferences.
  • SelfService to give employees access to HASTUS functions over the Internet, including from mobile devices.
  • Analytics to provide business-intelligence capabilities; integration with De Lijn’s new AVL system and ERP software will provide a large volume of data for analysis.

The new functionalities to be developed by GIRO for detour management will address both planning and operational needs. These functionalities are of particular significance in the Belgian context.

“We have high expectations of HASTUS to continue helping us satisfy the needs of the travelling public in Flanders,” said Yvan Strubbe, Program Manager, HASTUS and Daily Operations at De Lijn. “Our vision requires us to deliver on-time performance. We are counting on the enhancements to our HASTUS installation to help us optimize our operations, maintain employee satisfaction, and deliver the punctual and convenient service that our passengers are entitled to receive.”

“GIRO has enjoyed close collaboration with De Lijn while delivering solutions to its scheduling needs over the last two decades,” said Éric Lebel, GIRO’s Marketing Director, HASTUS. “We appreciate the confidence in GIRO that De Lijn’s award of this extensive new project to us represents. We are committed to delivering scheduling, operations, and detour-management solutions that will enable De Lijn to meet its ambitious goals for public transport in Flanders.”
