The short video highlights the opportunities and potential for investment in Greater Manchester since the launch of Transport for the North’s Northern Transport Strategy, supported by major transport schemes including High Speed 2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail.

Areas for development include the expanse surrounding Manchester Piccadilly railway station, including the Manchester Central development and the 24-acre Mayfield site, which is set to be transformed with 1,300 homes, 75,000 sq m of office space and a 350-bedroom hotel as well as retail and leisure facilities.

TfGM is also assessing the development of outlying residential and retail schemes as part of the interchange renewal programme which is set to create new transport hubs in Stockport, Tameside and Wigan.

“Forging a super-connected and productive network of Northern City Regions, transport is creating a series of fantastic development opportunities”

On presenting the film at an international property conference, Jon Lamonte, Chief Executive of TfGM said: “The sheer scale of transport investment, currently taking place and Greater Manchester’s place at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse is transforming the city region.

“This is transforming land values, and generating new uses from regeneration sites that are now getting the links they need to maximize their potential.

“By bringing the capital closer and forging a super-connected and productive network of Northern City Regions, transport is creating a series of fantastic development opportunities and enormous potential.”
