Transport manufacturer Alstom has delivered three metros consisting of five cars to the Azerbaijan city of Baku after successfully undergoing tests.

The new metro trainsets have a capacity of 1,047 passengers and provide 202 ergonomic seats. In addition, the lead car has been fitted with a dedicated area for persons with reduced mobility. The trainsets also include inter-car walkways to optimise passenger traffic flow, vertical handrails near doors for enhanced passenger safety when the train is in motion and the installation of LED lights for brightness and energy saving. The new 1520mm gauge metro cars have been produced at Alstom’s Metrowagonmash plant in Moscow.

Martin Vaujour, Senior Vice President of Alstom Transport for the CIS region, commented on Alstom metro trainset commencing operation in Baku: “These new metro cars will ensure safer and more comfortable trips in Baku. They have undergone the strictest quality control and comply with the highest standards. We intend to expand our co-operation with the Baku metro system and we will continue delivering advanced metro cars, jointly manufactured in Azerbaijan, into the future.”
