Joint venture to construct two tunnels and Nordhavn subway station…

HOCHTIEF

HOCHTIEF together with Züblin signed a contract to expand the subway network in Copenhagen. The client is the public transportation company Metroselskabet I/S. The tunneling project is part of the City Circle Line in the Danish capital. HOCHTIEF’s share in the order volume of approximately EUR 150 million is 40 percent.

“With this project, we continue to grow systematically in the Scandinavian infrastructure market and thus go on positioning ourselves as a strong provider for the expansion of modern and sustainable transportation infrastructure in Europe”, says Wilfried Rammler, General Manager of HOCHTIEF Infrastructure GmbH.

In addition to construction of a total of more than 3.5 kilometers of tunnel, the project also comprises the turnkey delivery of the Nordhavn subway station. To this end, the joint venture which consists of HOCHTIEF Infrastrucure Nordic branch and Züblin A/S will bore two approximately 1,800- and 1,600-meter-long tunnels with a tunnel boring machine. Beside the roughly 80-meter-long Nordhavn subway station, the joint venture will also construct a small tunnel and a ramp structure, a service shaft/emergency exit and a pedestrian transfer tunnel to the adjacent, already existing S-train urban rail station Nordhavn. On the one hand, this will provide the area at Copenhagen’s “northern harbor” with a link to the capital’s subway ring while on the other hand making it possible to switch directly between the transportation systems. The works on the project will start as early as in June this year and will be completed in 2019.
