Intelligent Transport caught up with David Barrett-Hague at Eurotech and had a chance to ask him a few questions about Eurotech and the recent people counting webinar.

Can you give us a little background on Eurotech?
Eurotech has been supplying technological solutions to customer’s problems for over 30 years and counting people for the last 10 years. We have implemented counting solutions on a wide variety of applications in transport, retail and the public sector. We count people into parliament buildings, holy places as well as the more traditional trains and buses.

Why count people?
As services require the participation of the customer, knowing how many are engaging with your company is clearly beneficial. Too much service capacity will waste resources, versus too little and you lose or inconvenience your customers resulting in lost revenue. Hence by knowing how many people, this allows organisations to balance the availability of resources to meet customer demand. This in turn minimises the costs and maximise customer satisfaction. For example it allows supermarkets to re-allocate staff to stock shelves as the number of customers within the store reduces.

Which organisations would benefit from counting people?
Service organisations that cater for the general public or large numbers of people benefit the most from adopting people counting systems. Often the return on investment (ROI) for an Automatic People Counting system comes as much from the increased customer satisfaction resulting in increased sales as it does from the optimised resources.

Also such systems can provide a validation for other systems, like ticketing to allow fraud detection and revenue protection schemes. The ability to support  financial grant application to regulators or government bodies by provide statistical evidence.

What does Eurotech offer that is unique?
Eurotech’s people counting solution uses a stereoscopic (3D) vision system with integral video analytics that provides the highest level of accuracy and consistency in a self-contained device. It can be easily integrated into almost any system either locally or remotely and provides an accurate count in all weather and light conditions.
