People in and around Taunton and Bridgwater may begin noticing some colourful changes taking place to First’s bus fleet in Somerset.

This is because several of its vehicles are going green as First starts a gradual makeover of its services which will now be called The Buses of Somerset. This will be followed by other low-key changes, all of which are designed to put customers first to make their journeys more desirable.

Among the other changes will be:

  • A fully illustrated and easy to read bus timetable booklet which also includes fares and thumb-nail sketches of places of interest along the routes
  • A makeover for Taunton Bus Station including a refurbishment of its Travel Shop and waiting room. This will be followed by upgrade work at Bridgwater Bus Station.
  • Progressive simplification of the range of fares and tickets.

Commenting on the changes, Alex Carter, Director, The Buses of Somerset, said: “Bus travel is an integral part of many people’s lives in the county. Having listened to feedback from our customers, we are now embarking on a long-term plan to completely renew and refresh First’s offering with our goal being to make it much more community- focussed and customer-friendly.

“Somerset has so much to offer as a county and our new look is designed to appeal not only to local people wanting to know which services and fares best suit their individual needs, but also to visitors looking to explore either its sandy beaches in the north or some of its world-famous historic sites such as Glastonbury and Wells.

“We will be introducing these changes step by step as we want to ensure The Buses of Somerset meet the needs of all our customers so that they take a pride in using our services.”

First is also teaming up with Apple FM, a Taunton-based community radio station, to promote its travel news and organise joint events for customers as part of its series of activities over the coming months.
