Nimbus Journey information are delighted to announce that the award-winning customer focussed operator, Reading Buses, have been chosen by the company to provide their on-bus information system for the next 5 years.

This carries on a successful relationship built during the delivery of the local authority funded Real Time Passenger Information system.

Nimbus will provide the bus company’s Open Data Service including next stop information, live data on bus locations through web feeds and development of the highly acclaimed open Android and i-Phone apps currently called ‘my bus Reading’. There will also be more work to develop and roll out live bus departure information through QR codes to more stop locations and refresh and update the cutting edge i-media system.

James Freeman, Chief Executive of Reading Buses, said ‘We have been impressed with the work that Nimbus have been doing with regards to real-time bus data. Today’s bus customer demands instant information about their journey and we aim to give it to them. Gone is the old impression of buses turning up when they like – it’s now the customers that can turn up when they like knowing that a bus will be with them within minutes. All done online, using their phone or having the on-street displays showing the next bus departures.

We want to give our customers live travel times so they can be as productive or social as they like before having to get to their bus stop as well as having accurate and helpful information when on the bus such as the next stop screens and announcements.’

Russell Gard, MD of Nimbus said ‘it is a real pleasure to work with such a forward looking and committed bus operator. They are willing to invest in modern information systems for passengers and managers and recognise the importance of them to successful operation. As you would expect, they are one of the first operators to do so’
